Vice Premier Stresses Rural Education
国务院副总理刘延东强调“一定要把农村义务教育办好”

According to Xinhua News Agency, during a tour of Yunnan and Guizhou provinces in southwest China from March 28 to April 1, Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong emphasized the role of rural education. She went deep into mountainous areas, remote villages and ethnic regions to investigate rural primary and middle schools' educational quality, nutritious meal programs and school safety. She pointed out that rural education should serve as a solid foundation for the growth of millions of rural children. She also stressed that more support should be given to rural compulsory education in order to narrow the rural-urban gap.
