RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN CHINAS ANTI-CORRUPTION INITIATIVES - HALF YEAR REVIEW

The Chinese government has in recent years introduced a series of anti-corruption initiatives in the face of increasing public concerns about the behavior of party officials and their associates1. It is a reflection of the fact that Chinese leaders are acutely aware that deep-rooted corruption within government and state-owned enterprises (SOEs) are threatening the very survival of China's ruling Communist Party (CPC). The further measures that the government has introduced this year so far is further indication that the CPC is determined to tackle corruption against party officials particularly at a senior level, as well as senior management of SOEs.

We outline below some of the measures introduced by the Chinese government over the last 6 months, and their likely impact going forward.
