Assistant Professor of Educational Psychology, Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology and Research,The University of Memphis

QUALIFICATIONS: An earned doctorate in Educational Psychology or Human Development or a closely related field is required. Experience teaching adolescence and adult development applied to education courses is desired as is experience teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Applicants will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels and to research, particularly as applied to urban settings. Experience working on grant funded projects is also desired.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach graduate and undergraduate courses for the department and college, mentor students, develop or continue a focused, significant program of scholarly research and publication, supervise research of advanced graduate students, chair and serve on master’s and doctoral committees, provide professional service to surrounding public and private schools, and participate in national professional organizations and university and college service. The successful candidate will teach courses in human development, specifically related to adolescence, adulthood, and aging. Candidates who also possess expertise with issues of cultural diversity are encouraged to apply. Research opportunities are available for the committed scholar related to the metropolitan school districts in the area and collaboration with our Center for Research on Educational Policy. Pursuit of external funding to support scholarly research is strongly encouraged.

SETTING: The University of Memphis, a Tennessee Board of Regents institution, is recognized by the Carnegie Foundation as one of two public research universities and the only community engaged public university in Tennessee. The Educational Psychology and Research area, in addition to offering MS and PhD concentrations in Educational Psychology and in Educational Research, is a support area for other graduate degree programs in the College of Education. SALARY & BEGINNING DATE: Salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications. The position (#001679) is a nine-month tenure track appointment with the possibility of summer teaching. The anticipated date of appointment is August 2014. The University offers an excellent benefits package, including healthcare and retirement.
